A collection of photographs with views of coastline on Kangaroo Island and at Rapid Bay, the lighthouse at Cape Jervis, shipwrecks on the Coorong and Wardang Island, Renmark, Kopperamanna Lutheran Mission, and other places in South Australia. Photographs 1-9 were taken by Rev. N. H. Louwyck, for the Centenary, 8 September 1936 of the landing of Col. William Light at Rapid Bay South Australia. Photographs 10 (see series 22 photo 29), 20, 48 are missing from the set.

Comprising 177 black and white family photographs of Robert Innes Ker, his wife Dorothy Muriel (nee Elliott), and children Alva, Byron, and Colleen, along with friends and other family members. World War 1 and 2 era fundraising button badges

World War One era badges (also known as buttons or 'tinnies') collected by the R.S.L. Most badges were designed and created to be puchased as a fundraising interest, in order to raise money for various factions of the Red Cross. Included are badges created for occasions such as Australia Day, Violet Day, Army Nurses Day, and French Day, and for charity groups including the Red Cross, the Cheer-Up Society, the R.S.A. Building Fund (Returned Soldiers' Association, which later became the R.S.L.), the Wattle Day League, Soldiers' Home, Children's Patriotic League, Nursing Society, and the Y.M.C.A., as well as official peace badges marking the end of the war and various miscellaneous badges including a Christian Endeavour convention, fundraising carnivals and memorial gardens. Also includes some button badges from the inter-war years, 1919-1938, and from the Second World War, and other metal badges from WW1 and WW2. See below for details.

Captain Field's House

House built by Captain George Field near Yankalilla in the 1840s. Captain William George Field came to South Australia as first mate on the "Rapid" with Colonel Light. He later succeeded Colonel Light as Master of the "Rapid". He died at Yankalilla in 1850.

Entrance Gates, Botanic Gardens which were erected in 1876 or 1877. Provision for a public garden was made by Surveyor General Colonel William Light in his 1837 Plan for Adelaide. The site was recommended to the Government and George William Francis was appointed superintendent of the garden in 1855. A set of fine iron gates was purchased for the North Terrace entry. The gates have a double set of opening gates flanked by single opening gates on the side. Two gas lights sit on top of the ornate gate posts.

Starting point of Adelaide survey

The monument situated on the north-east corner of North and West Terraces marking the starting point for Colonel William Light's survey of Adelaide. The plaque reads: 'Hereabouts in January 1837, the survey of the City of Adelaide was begun. Here, also in 1837, were erected the first public offices - Land and Survey - of the Province of South Australia. Adjoining these offices, which were built of wood, were the dwellings of James Hurtle Fisher, the first Resident Commissioner, and William Light, first Surveyor General. The buildings were destroyed by fire on January 22nd 1839. Erected by the City Council 1928'.

Rapid Bay

[General description] Rapid Bay is where Colonel Light first made landfall at the new colony. He named the bay after his ship the HMS Rapid, recording the event by engraving his initials and date on a boulder, a replica of which is incorporated into this beachside monument. See B 4739.
