Summary

[General description] Rapid Bay is where Colonel Light first made landfall at the new colony. He named the bay after his ship the HMS Rapid, recording the event by engraving his initials and date on a boulder, a replica of which is incorporated into this beachside monument. See B 4739. [On back of photograph] 'Cairn at Rapid Bay, South Australia / Unveiled 4/2/1925 / In memory of Colonel Light / Photo by H(name illegible) W. Marshall'.
