WW1 fundraising badge for Sergeant Barrett's Gallipoli Concert Party, featuring a black and white photograph of six of the performers from the concert, who may include: Sergeant J.R. Barrett (baritone), Private J. Dillon (elocutionist), Sergeant C.H. Toovey (comedian), Private A. Hammond (orator), Sergeant Peter Molloy (tenor), Sergeant W.M. Harrell (elocutionist), Private E.R. Marchant (pianist), Private Ivan Spencer (tenor), and Private Shinfield (humorous elocutionist). No. 85, Sergeant James Robert Barrett, of Glenelg, South Australia, served with the 9th Light Horse in the Middle East including at Gallipoli, and after being injured and declared medically unfit, returned to Australia in 1916. He formed and lead an entertainment troupe of returned wounded soldiers which toured around Australia performing songs, recitations, sketches and humorous items, possibly raising funds for the war effort.
