Next door at number 124 is the Australasian Scale Company Limited. Various varieties of weighing scales can be seen in the windows. A car and a bicycle are parked at the kerb. [General description] This previously Victorian style hotel has just undergone alterations. It now has an Art Deco parapet and the elaborate iron lace on the balcony has been replaced with a plainer wrought iron pattern. There has been a hotel on this site since 1846, possibly earlier. There has been several name changes but from 16/06/37 to 21/06/79 it was known as the Coronation Hotel. Daniel Hore Kenny is the licensee at the time this photograph was taken. Currie Street, north side, frontage of the Coronation Hotel is 19 yards. An AMSCOL milk van is parked in Currie Street. Right side of the hotel abuts Rosina Street. The Coronation Hotel has had numerous names including London, Neates, Golden Fleece, Crown Inn, Hotel California, Armstrong's Tavern. London and Neates were establishments on this town acre at two earlier times. The proprietor at the time of the photograph was John Frederick Byass.

[General description] Buildings on Currie Street featuring a single storey stone cottage with two arched doorways and an iron roof. On the roof is painted 'Mann Steam Wagons & Carts' A bicycle has been propped against a pole. Left side of one story building is 2 yards west of Elizabeth St. Frontage of one story building is 8 1/2 yards. Shop front installed in one story building in 1926.' On the left a pair of grey horses pull a dray. [General description] Two children pose for the photographer in front of a red brick two storey school building. Completed on the 3rd March, 1891, it was erected as a model school for others to copy. [General description] The main building of this institution has been given an updated look including a new roof with gable and enclosed verandah upstairs. The wing seen at the rear has pillared verandahs. A wrought iron arch over the front gate displays the name 'St Joseph's Providence' and street Number 32. [General description] The two storey stone house on the left with balcony is one of the residences along West Terrace which has several new street trees protected by wooden guards.The West Terrace flour mill, owned at this time by Giles & Smith is seen on the right. It has recently been badly damaged by fire, with the roof, being tin and lead melting and falling in. (From the Register, 27th April, 1876, p. 7). [General description] This two storey building is built from brick with cement dressings around its arched windows and parapet including balustrading. The ground floor features a portico of five arches with decorative pillars. A horse and carriage possibly of the type known as a 'Stanhope', with four wheels and one seat, stands in front of the building. [General description] A horse and cart stands in front of the grand Savings Bank building with its neo-classical facade and tall columns. This impressive bank building was designed and its construction supervised by architect Edward Davies (of the firm Cumming and Davies) and opened for buisiness on 28th April, 1904. [On back of photograph] 'Acres 139 and 140 / Currie Street, south side / 1927 / Near side of Savings Bank building is 24.5 yards east of Peel Street. Frontage of bank: 24 yards / Reproduced in "Chronicle", Dec. 10, 1927.' The sculpture atop the building was done by William James Maxwell, the preferred carver of architect Edward Davies.

[General description] This hotel is a two storey stone building featuring a small cantilever verandah. It was established on 31/05/1837 as Guthrie's Hotel and was renamed the Edinburgh Castle Hotel in 1839. It has the oldest hotel licence in South Australia and is still in business in 2010. Edward McDonnell held the licence from 31/05/1920 until 23/1/1954. The site was formerly vacant although a building did stand there at one time

[General description] Two horses harnessed to a wagon stand patiently in front of the George Hotel. The licencee at this time was Ed. Iveson. This hotel has had a variety of names since 1849 and was re-built in 1898. From 1970 up until now (2010) it has been known as the Colonel Light Hotel. For a view taken in 1984 see B 43712.
