Summary

[General description] Two horses harnessed to a wagon stand patiently in front of the George Hotel. The licencee at this time was Ed. Iveson. This hotel has had a variety of names since 1849 and was re-built in 1898. From 1970 up until now (2010) it has been known as the Colonel Light Hotel. For a view taken in 1984 see B 43712. [On back of photograph] 'Acre 131 / Hotel George / Currie Street, south side. West side of Light Square. / Feb. 2, 1927. / Currie Street frontage of hotel: 13.5 yds. / Light Square frontage: 19 yards. / Verandah and balcony erected in 1926. For earlier photograph see B 2153.' (Another hand) 'For view of building erected immediately on right of Hotel George, in 1950, see B 12363 / The twin buildings on extreme right were demolished / For view of site in 1954, see B 12912.'
