Members of a football team photographed at the Jubilee Oval, Adelaide. According to a researcher, this may be a Sturt Football club photo and some of the players include J.L.R. Kay (6th person across, back row), V.Y. Richardson and O.B. Beatty (4th and 5th players across, middle row), ? Bailey (umpire) and G.F. King (front row). Percy Crowley is 3rd from left in the front row. Another researcher suggests that this photo is the civil service team that played a combined Banks team. An annual game was held yearly from the 1880's up to World War 2. There are Sturt players in the photo. Another researcher provided the following information: A copy of this photograph appears in 'The Critic' of 4 August 1920 and is captioned Public Service Football Team. The 'Register' of 28 July 1920 gives the names of the team selected to play against the Combined Banks team: O.B. Beatty, L.P. Jervis, P. Crowley, F.C. Curnow, F.J. McNally, L.R. Davies, H.H. Dixon, H.B. Groves, J.A. Hansen, J.L.R. Kay, J.W. Wainwright, W.J. Keane, G.F. King, V.Y. Richardson, R.N. Sanders, B.E. Schumacher, D.C. Sharp, F.C. Shearer (emergencies) C. Groves, G. Murray.

Photographs collected and taken for a conservation study of older residential buildings and hotels in Adelaide city (not North Adelaide) in 1976-1977, initiated by the Adelaide Residents' Society Inc., which were later used in their 1978 publication 'Preserving Historic Adelaide' edited by Colin Bond and Hamish Ramsay (Rigby Limited). The names of the photographers are not specified, but the following people were involved: Bob Ramsay, Michael Brock, Peter Kelly and Peter O'Grady. (Negatives of their photographs comprise series 4-6 of this group, and may include images from this series.) Some of the early views of buildings have been copied from State Library images (denoted in captions by 'SLSA'). See 'Contents' in 'More info' for details. (The City Acre number or exact location is not specified). Three images not listed in the 'Contents' but included in the book are: (98) Part of Queen Elizabeth I's proclamation of 1560 'agaynst breakyng or defacing of Monuments'; (99) Elevation drawing of St Paul's Cathedral, London by Christopher Wren; (100) Kirribilli House, Sydney.

A collection of photographs relating to the West Torrens Football Club, also known as the Eagles and part of the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). The images include action shots from various matches, player portraits and other club related activities. According to brief paperwork attached to the photos (now removed), many of the photographs were published in the Weekly Times Messenger or the Football Times. Where more than one date has been supplied, one of the dates may refer to the date of publication. See 'contents' for details of individual images.

World War 1 and 2 era fundraising button badges

World War One era badges (also known as buttons or 'tinnies') collected by the R.S.L. Most badges were designed and created to be puchased as a fundraising interest, in order to raise money for various factions of the Red Cross. Included are badges created for occasions such as Australia Day, Violet Day, Army Nurses Day, and French Day, and for charity groups including the Red Cross, the Cheer-Up Society, the R.S.A. Building Fund (Returned Soldiers' Association, which later became the R.S.L.), the Wattle Day League, Soldiers' Home, Children's Patriotic League, Nursing Society, and the Y.M.C.A., as well as official peace badges marking the end of the war and various miscellaneous badges including a Christian Endeavour convention, fundraising carnivals and memorial gardens. Also includes some button badges from the inter-war years, 1919-1938, and from the Second World War, and other metal badges from WW1 and WW2. See below for details.

Residence of Joseph Fisher, (standing in the foreground) Fisher St., Fullarton. Joseph Fisher, accountant and parliamentarian was commercial manager of the Register and Observer and with his intelligent, firm and tactful manner he guided the business through many storms. He was an enthusiastic gardener and loved his roses and trees at his home 'Woodfield' at Fullarton. He renovated his home and filled it with local art. He represented Sturt in the House of Assembly and sat in the Legislative Council. Part of the house behind Joseph Fisher is two storey with a tower above the central entrance. An attached single storey residence with a return verandah stands to the east of this. The attractive gardens have rose beds, established trees and lawns lining the curved driveway.

Glenelg

[General description] Looking along Jetty Road to the sea; the masts and spars of a ship can be seen in the distance. Single storey shops on the left are C. Hambridge, Draper and Outfitter; Glenelg, Brighton and Sturt Building Society and the Glenelg Photographic Rooms. The Congregational Church in the centre, designed by James MacGeorge opened in 1859. A new church, now known as St. Andrews by the Sea was built c. 1880 on the eastern side of this building which became the church hall. Tram lines run down the centre of the road.
