The wooden brigantine 'Swordfish', 111 tons, in an unidentified port [wooden 2 mast brigantine, 111 tons, ON38811, 92.7 x 20.9 x 8.4. Built 1866 Macleay River, NSW for Sydney owners; sold to Melbourne in 1868, and while enrolled at that point operated by various sawmillers in north west Tasmania until 1897 when sold to VW Brown of Townsville. The last news of the vessel was that she had been abandoned at Maryborough in January 1919, presumably as unseaworthy. Transcripts from Sydney and Melbourne Customs registers].

London: 1881. GA Phillips, reg. Newcastle, NSW and transferred to Port Adelaide in Oct. 1883. Owners W. Llewellin, Wm. McLean & John Whittingham. Transferred to Melbourne June 1885 by the same owners. In November 1898 the ship was sold by order of the Court of the Cape of Good Hope and was re-registered in Port Natal. Returned to Australian owners in 1900 at Newcastle NSW and sold to Union SS Co. of NZ Ltd for use as a hulk at Launceston, Tas., and later was used in the same capacity at Devonport. Was sold for breaking up in January 1927. In the early part of her career was employed in the UK-Tasmania run.]

The iron barque 'Shandon', 1442 tons, in an unidentified harbour [iron 3 mast ship, later 3 mast barque, 1442 gross, 1397 net tons ON86743, 245.9 x 37.8 x 21.3. Built 1883 (1) R Duncan and Co. Port Glasgow. Owners: Thom and Cameron Ltd., registered Glasgow. c.1906 sold to Norwegian owners, re-rigged as a barque and renamed 'Victor'. Reverts to 'Shandon' 1914 and converted into a coal hulk at Melbourne. Re-rigged as a barque c.1915 and owned by the Commonwealth Government, registered Melbourne. Sold to Bellambi Coal Co., 1921 and in 1922 converted to a coal hulk and broken up at Melbourne in 1960. In 1912 on a voyage from Sourabayqa towards Newcastle, NSW illness caused many deaths and the ship was found drifting near Dirk Hartog Island, WA. by some local fishermen who helped get the ship into Fremantle. The ship was laid up at Newcastle until the outbreak of WW1 when she was sold to J Paterson and Co., Melbourne, loaded with coal and sailed to Melbourne for conversion to a coal hulk. Sold to the Commonwealth Government and was re-rigged and engaged in the Trans-Pacific trade until once again converted to a coal hulk] notes from 'The Argus' Jan. 2, 1932 and April 26, 1922.

He thinks the vessel is most definitely built of wood.

Auxiliary diesel fitted 78bhp, 7 knots, 97gross, 60 net tons. Owners: Rock Davis (thence executors of his estate) registered Sydney: 1916 Arthur H Hassell, registered Port Adelaide. Stranded Sandy Straits, between Fraser Island and the mainland, Queensland, and became a total loss. Register closed July 1919.
