Summary

The steel barque 'Avanti Savoia', 1441 tons, at Howard Dock on the River Avon, Bristol. [steel 3 mast barque, originally 1441 gross tons, 1383 net tons in 1913 = 1292 net tons. British ON128783, 248.6 x 35.9 x 21.1 built 1891 (2) G. Ansaldo and Co. Sestri Ponente for Italian owners in Savona. Sold in 1913 to George Savage and Thomas Corrance, registered Newcastle NSW. Wrecked at the Shetland Island, Cape Horn in April 1915.]

From the volume titled 'Australian Owned Sailing Vessels'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
