The iron barque 'C.J.S.', 720 tons, in an unidentified port. [iron 3 mast barque, 720 gross, 700 net tons. ON74558, 188.4 x 31.1 x 18.6. Built 1876 (8) J. Dobie and Co. Glasgow as West Glen for Lawson Hodgson, reg. Liverpool, sold and renamed in 1897. Owners MC Jacobs, registered Melbourne August 1918. John Jacobs. Sunk 30 miles from Mauritius Feb 1, 1920. Melbourne Customs Register (transcript in AMHS files 13 of 1897.]

From the volume titled 'Australian Owned Sailing Vessels'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
