The wooden ketch 'Elsinore', 36 tons, in an unidentified harbour [wooden 2 mast schooner (all her life, according to official recoards - caption says 'ketch') 36 tons. ON70337. 55.0 x 16.6 x 6.5. Built 1875 Sims and Brown, Auckland. Owners: Ernest Ford and CF Hulme, registered Auckland; 1879 CV Dacre, JT Hendry and GC Gordon; 1880 DH McKenzie; 1881 William Roberts; 1884 James Johnston and partners, registered Sydney. March 1891 W& RF Gow, registered Melbourne; Jan. 1897 WE Telford (of Apollo Bay) May 1895 A Prince; Jan. 1898 G Currie August 1911 William Knights. Register closed in 1929 with 'lost at sea some years ago'].

From the volume titled 'Australian Owned Sailing Vessels'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
