The 'Peter Denny' in an unidentified harbour
The wooden ship 'Peter Denny', 998 tons, in an unidentified harbour [wooden 3 mast ship, 1040 gross, 998 net tons, later 966 net tons. ON52594. 197.3 x 34.6 x 20.8. Built 1865 (3) Duthie, Aberdeen. Owners: Albion Shipping Co., registered Glasgow. c.1877 JH Farmer and Co., and reduced to barque rig. Carried many passengers to New Zealand for the Albion Line did not transfer to Shaw, Savill and Albion].

Built 1866 (11) R Duncan and Co. Port Glasgow. Owners: James Galbraith (Partner in P. Henderson and Co.) registered Glasgow: c.1872/3 Shaw, Savill and Co., registered Southampton, later Shaw, Savill and Albion Ltd. 1896 G McClatchie, registered Lyttelton: 1900 F Holm, registered Wellington: 1911 Helen Denny Ltd: 1912 Paparoa Coal Co. and converted to a hulk. Sold to Union SS Co. of NZ Ltd., 1928. Sunk off Cuvier Island, NZ April 27 1948 at the end of a useful life. Built for the UK -Burma run but quickly transferred to UK-NZ line where she enjoyed a good reputation. Sold in 1896 continued trade out of NZ until converted into a coal hulk. Hartlepool. Owners: William Milburn, registered London. c.1875 WH Taylor. c.1880 Shaw, Savill and Co. Later Shaw, Savill and Albion. 1906 Colonial Sailing Ship Co. Ltd. (Turnbull and Co.) registered Lyttelton. Severely damanged in a gale, and dismasted, off Kaikoura, New Zealand Sept. 30, 1906. Towed into port but sold to Union Sailing Ship Co. of New Zealand Ltd., who converted the vessel into a coal hulk. In June 1950, vessel was sunk in Cook Strait by Airforce planes in bombing practice. Well known in the New Zealand emmigrant trade].

ON60449, 207.3 x 34.5 x 20.1. Built 1869 (8) R Duncan and Co. Port Glasgow. Owners: Albion Shipping Co. Ltd., registered Glasgow. c.1880 William Brown (who left the management with Shaw, Savill and Company) c.1891 sold to Swedish owners, without change of name. c. 1909 sold Portuguese and renamed 'Emilia' torpedoed during WW1.Great confusion between two vessels of this name both built in the same year. The smaller one was associated with Joseph Conrad when he took charge of it to bring it to Port Adelaide upon the death of the master. Many writers assert that the vessel, details above, was owned by SS&A which was not so].

Built 1869 (2) William Harkness Middlesbro' Owners: William Graham registered Newport; 1873 transferred to London; 1876 Shaw, Savill and Co. registered Southampton; April 1886. Charles Steven Hodge, registered Dunedin; registered and transferred by Mr. Hodge to Newcastle NSW in 1886; then he transferred to Melbourne; Jan. 1893 F Condy, registered Sydney, then A Anderson and others; 1906 sold to Melbourne Steamship Co. Ltd., who converted the vessel into a coal hulk and renamed it Graham. Registered closed in 1934 when sold for breaking].

Built 1871 Money, Wigram and Sons. London (and fitted with steam engines - 500 hp built by Humphreys, Tennant and Co., ) Owners M Wigram and Sons, registered London. Engine removed 1883 and chartered to Shaw, Savill and Albion Ltd., who purchased the vessel in 1884. Wrecked at Napier, New Zealand, May 11, 1887. Built for the UK-Australia passenger service via Cape Town, but from 1883 engaged in the UK-New Zealand service].
