ON99962. 211.3 x 35.3 x 17.3. Built 1893 (6) Workman, Clark and Co., Belfast. Owners: Montgomerie and Workman, registered Belfast. Went missing late in 1895 on a voyage when in ballast from San Jose, Guatemala towards Vancouver. Sailed Dec. 15, 1895, was spoken Dec. 20 and not seen since]. A researcher believes that Captain George Falconer from Aberdeen, Scotland, was the Captain the year that the 'Xantippe' went missing. The 'Daily Commercial News and Shipping List' (Sydney, Friday 8 February 1895) reports that: 'Captain Falconer, of tho British barquentine Xantippe, from Victoria. B.C. for Cork, which put into Skibbereen Harbor, November 28th, with the crew sick, has since died.' The researcher, a descendant of Captain Falconer, says: 'He snd his crew were caught in the Doldrums. Most succumbed to scurvy. Some were rescued and recovered to Skibbereen in Eire.'
