The iron barque 'Rosalind', 352 tons, immediately after launching at Aberdeen. Thomas Russell of Grimsby (1836-1889) was Master of the 'Rosalind' from when it was new. A newspaper report in the Hull Times, 23 November 1889, stated that the ship was believed to have been lost at sea with all hands following a cyclone, having been overdue by two months at its destination.

Built 1863 (5) JG Lawrie, Glasgow. Owners T Skinner and Co. registered Glasgow. Wrecked at Warrnambool Victoria January 15, 1888 when she struck while entering in charge of a pilot. Efforts to save the vessel proved useless. She was inward with a cargo of cement for the new breakwater].


The 'Newfield' after being stranded
The steel barque 'Newfield', 1512 tons, after being stranded [possibly also known as the 'Gwydyr Castle']. According to a researcher, the 'Newfield' was built by Alexander Stephen in Dundee & built for Brownells & Co. of Liverpool. 29 Aug 1892 - stranded when Cape Otway light was mistaken for King Island on passage Sharpness - Brisbane with 1850Te salt. 9 crew were lost. The next Newfield ON 102113 was built at the same yard in 1893, presumably as a replacement for the same owner. She was later called Gwydyr Castle and was scrapped in 1932.

The steel barque 'County Antrim', 1199 tons, wrecked at Ninety Mile Beach on January 12, 1897. [steel 3 mast barque, 1241 gross tons. ON96307, 226.0 x 36.4 x 21.9. Built 1889 (5) CJ Bigger Londonderry, owners RJ Swyny registered Liverpool. Wrecked on the Ninety Mile Beach Jan 12, 1897 whilst on a voyage from England to Sydney. All saved]. A researcher has provided the following information: "The 'County Antrim' was wrecked on the shore of Jean Teychenne's property. The crew were saved and given shelter in the barns of the farm. The crew went back on board and extracted timber from the captain's cabin, from which they made a small footstool which they presented to Jean. The footstool has a parchment attached underneath expressing the thanks of the crew".

The iron barque 'Clan MacLeod', 671 tons, anchored in Auckland Harbour, N.Z., with the tug 'Admiral' alongside [iron barque, 671 tons, ON68086. 179.5 x 31.3 x 17.5. Built 1874 (2) Bartram, Haswell and Co. Sunderland. Owners: Thomas Dunlop, registered Glasgow, then A. Rodger, later Sir RW Cameron. Sold in 1900 Joseph James Craig, merchant of Auckland and in 1901 registered at Auckland. In 1905 the name of the vessel was changed to 'James Craig'. In 1911 sold to British New Guinea Development Co and registered in Sydney, later to H. Jones and Co. Ltd of Hobart and registered in Hobart in 1921. Eventually became a coal hulk and when no longer required was abandoned in Recherche Bay, Derwent River, Tasmania. Subsequently purchased by a Sydney syndicate and underwent a refit in 1977, prepatory to being taken to Sydney as a centrepiece for a marine museum. It now sails in Sydney Harbour as well as undertaking trips to Tasmania (as at 2018).
