Summary

The iron barque 'Rosalind', 352 tons, immediately after launching at Aberdeen. Thomas Russell of Grimsby (1836-1889) was Master of the 'Rosalind' from when it was new. A newspaper report in the Hull Times, 23 November 1889, stated that the ship was believed to have been lost at sea with all hands following a cyclone, having been overdue by two months at its destination.

From the volume titled 'British Owned Iron and Steel Barques (I)'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.

Historical information

The 'Rosalind' was built by A. Hall and Co. Shipbuilders [iron 3 mast barque, 365 gross tons. ON91508, 140.7 x 27.6 x 13.0 Built 1885 (2) A Hall and Co. Aberdeen. Owners: J Sutcliffe and Sons, registered Grimsby]. The ship sailed its firstvoyage to the West Indies in July [1889?].
