World War One era badges (also known as buttons or 'tinnies') collected by the R.S.L. Most badges were designed and created to be puchased as a fundraising interest, in order to raise money for various factions of the Red Cross. Included are badges created for occasions such as Australia Day, Violet Day, Army Nurses Day, and French Day, and for charity groups including the Red Cross, the Cheer-Up Society, the R.S.A. Building Fund (Returned Soldiers' Association, which later became the R.S.L.), the Wattle Day League, Soldiers' Home, Children's Patriotic League, Nursing Society, and the Y.M.C.A., as well as official peace badges marking the end of the war and various miscellaneous badges including a Christian Endeavour convention, fundraising carnivals and memorial gardens. George Woodroffe Goyder

George Woodroffe Goyder joined the South Australian Department of Lands, eventually becoming surveyor-general. He laid down on a map the line of demarcation between that portion of the country where rainfall has extended, and that where drought prevails. The map published in 1866 showed his rainfall line of travel with a wing sweeping east from the Murray to the Victorian border and another from Spencer Gulf far to the west. This line separated lands suitable for agriculture and lands suitable for grazing. Later he surveyed the Northern Territory for a site for the capital. He was known as the most efficient public servant in the colony

Richard John Loveday. Note on the back of the photograph says "In the article on Port Pirie which appeared in yesterday's Advertiser, Lance Corporal Loveday, who compiled a valuable map in 1853 is spoken of as having belonged to the Royal Marines. He was a member of the detachment of sappers and miners, an altogether different branch of the service, who occupied cottages on the bank of the Torrens near the City Bridge which were demolished not long ago". (no date given) Loveday's map showed a plan of the County of Stanley and part of the County of Burra. This area is in the Mid North of the State of South Australia.

R.T. Maurice's expedition party

Expedition party featuring five gentlemen and a dog. Standing : 'Karraminya', 'Nunjena', 'Napparinya'. Sitting : William Richard Murray and Richard Thelwell Maurice. Murray and Maurice partook of an exploratory expedition to Central Australia in 1902 from Fowler's Bay to Wyndham on Cambridge Gulf, relying on Aboriginal guides to map springs and waterholes throughout north-western South Australia. They left an anthropological and exploratory record of the event.

Certificate of authenticity

A certificate of authenticity presented by NASA to the State Government of South Australia, confirming that the Library's '1851 Tallis map of South Australia was flown in space aboard the United States Space Shuttle 'Discovery', which was launched ... July 26, 2005 ... [and returned] on August 9, 2005...'. The certificate provides details of the STS-114 flight on which Andy Thomas was the mission specialist, is signed by Thomas, and carries a mission sticker. The full text of the certificate reads: "Certificate of Authenticity STS-114 - Presented to the State Government of South Australia. This 1851 Tallis Map of South Australia was flown in space aboard the United States Space Shuttle Discovery, which was launched at 10:39 a.m. EDT., July 26, 2005, from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida. During the mission, Discovery traveled to the International Space Station and remained docked to the Station for 7 days, 21 hours and 9 minutes. At 8:11 a.m. EDT, August 9, 2005, after 220 Earth orbits, Discovery landed at Edwards Air force Base, California. Maximum Altitude 222 miles Maximum Speed 17,500 mph Duration 13 days, 21 hours, 32 minutes Distance traveled 5,796,419 miles [signed Andy Thomas] Andrew S.W. Thomas, Ph.D. Mission Specialist, STS-1114."

Trengove comprising lantern slides and glass plate negatives, mainly of church buildings of the Eyre Peninsula region, with a focus on Cowell and the Methodist church, manse and scenery. There are also photographs of Maylands Methodist Church and Orroroo Methodist Church. Also includes some images of the Franklin Harbour hotel in Cowell, other buildings in the Eyre Peninsula and coastal jetty scenes, and some portraits of missionaries serving in the Eyre Peninsula circuit. Old Primitive Methodist Church, near Hartley, photographed in 1941 when it was used as a barn. A rough map has been drawn on the back of the photograph showing the location which is on the corner of roads leading to Woodchester to Callington, and Mount Barker to Wellington. The small old building has a pitched roof and a small porch. Hartley is a ghost town located along the Bremer River on the Strathalbyn to Callington Road. The Methodist Church was built in 1856. The settlement once had a post office, school and creamery.

Frenchman's Rock, Hog Bay

Protective structure over the memorial rock at Frenchman's Bay, Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island. The rock was inscribed by the crew of Nicolas Baudin's ship Le Geographe in 1803. He stopped at this spot to collect fresh water and meat. The crew stayed for three weeks mapping the island and collecting flora and fauna specimens.
