Map of Governor Grey's expedition to the south-east of South Australia in April and May 1844, and was drawn by Thomas Burr (Deputy Surveyor General). It shows places that Governor Grey names on this trip: Lake George and Lake Eliza (May 1), Lake Frome and Lake Bonney (May 4), and Mount Burr (May 7). It also marks the location of the expedition's depot (set up on May 3). Thomas Burr's journal of the trip was published in the 'Southern Australian', 18 June 1844, p. 3. Governor Grey's despatch to Colonial Secretary Lord Stanley, dated 22 June 1844, includes an expedition map and identifies fellow expeditioner Thomas Burr as it author (South Australian Gazette and Colonial Register, 10 October 1846, p. 3.). Burr likely made several map copies in 1844, of which this is one. This copy is stamped 'South Australian Company' with the date 4.6.45. Map place names: [Bonney's Water-holes], The Coorong, Granite Rock, Lacepede Bay, Ross's Creek, Mount Benson, Guichen Bay, Lake Hawdon, Lake Eliza, Lake George, Cape Martin, Rivoli Bay, Cape Lannes, Lake Frome, Lake Bonnery, Cape West Banks, Cape Northumberland, River Glenelg, Mount Schanck, Mount Gambier, Mount Burr, and the 'Overland Track to Port Phillip' (shown in red ink). Some parts of Coorong coastline missing from map. Ink and watercolour wash on paper, ink notation (paper cleaned but showing residual discolouration; backing sheet buckled where top left hand fragment of map is fixed). Scale 8 miles to 1 inch.

Map of the lower part of South Australia from Fowlers Bay in the west to Discovery Bay in the east, with notes on vegetation and topography and comments such as 'natives seen' near Coffin Bay, and 'met Le Geographe coming from the S.E.' in Encounter Bay near the mouth of the Murray. This map is based on the surveys of Matthew Flinders and Col. William Light. Relief shown by hachures and bathymetric soundings.

Lithographed map of part of South Australia from Lake Torrens to Kangaroo Island with place names and named features, and showing counties and mining districts. Mapping of the coast from Elliston in the west to the Coorong in the east, and from Kangaroo Island in the south to Mt. Deception in the north. The depiction of Lake Torrens indicates exploration not very advanced at this date. Originally published within 'Tallis's illustrated atlas and modern history of the world'. London : John Tallis & Company, 1851. Also published as plate 13 of Martin's 'Australia, comprising New South Wales, Victoria or Port Philip, South Australia and Western Australia : their history, topography, conditions, resources, statistics, gold discoveries, mines of copper, lead etc. London. J. Tallis and Co., [1853?]. A State Library Tallis map "Part of South Australia" 1851 (call no. rbr 325032) was flown in space aboard the United States Space Shuttle "Discovery" with the South Australian astronaut Andy Thomas. "Discovery "was launched at 10:39 a.m. EDT., July 26, 2005, from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida.

Library has four copies of the map that are identical except for manuscript additions, with one map partly coloured.

Map of the country explored by Stephen Hack and party north of Streaky Bay in 1857 for the S.A. Government, with exploration routes shown extending east to the southern section of Lake Gairdner and nearly as far as Lake Gilles. The map includes part of the coast line of Eyre Peninsula from Streaky Bay to Venus Bay, and 17 different areas (lots 4-20) coloured dark brown (obscuring any printed information within), showing the extent of pastoral runs. These are summarised in a table within the map area. Map by W.G. Harris, surveyor to the expedition. Scale approximately 1 inch to 10 miles; lines of latitude and longitude incorporated in map border. Stamped 10.9.[18]58.

Chart of Port Adelaide, South Australia covering part of LeFevre's Peninsula and Torrens Island with land cover shown pictorially. Includes soundings for the coastal waters and Torrens River. Accompanying text is entitled 'Directions' and provides navigational directions to those sailing the Gulf of St. Vincent. The references under Remarks demonstrates the hopes of the Colony to provide anchorages for visiting vessels along the Torrens River and to provide access further up the River to the city of Adelaide. This chart was compiled from Colonel Light's survey with soundings by S. Hamilton, drawn by F.H. Burslem of the Survey Department and engraved by W. Moffitt, Sydney. Shows coast, river with soundings, and Torrens Island. Includes natural features. Dated 1839, but without detailed navigation notes that appear on 1840 version (map 120/3). Scale 2 inches to 1 mile.
