Ted Packer was reported to be an enthusiastic amateur photographer when he was twenty-one years of age (The Narracoorte Herald, 23 October 1903). Seven years later he was adverting his services as a photographer in Tailem Bend, in addition to being a hairdresser, tobacconist, news agent, cycle agent and picture framer. The collection is probably a mixture of Packer and Wiese family photographs, photographs taken by Ted Packer as a photography enthusiast who gave magic lantern presentations to the public, and glass plate negatives of photographs taken by Ted Packer as a regional professional photographer. There are also a few photographs taken by others after Ted's death.

Comprising images of: solar salt fields at Port Augusta and Port Paterson, salt fields at Dry Creek near Adelaide, quarry at Penrice and the soda ash works at Osborne, Mount Bold dam and reservoir, and numerous images of salt harvesting and quarrying machinery and vehicles including conveyors, stacker conveyors, crushers, drills, elevators and salt harvesters, in particular the 'Curdimurka' and 'Hodog' salt harvesters. Collection of lantern slides, created by Raymond Gordon. Gordon travelled widely in South Australia and to the Northern Territory. Views include Mount Gambier, Barmera, Adelaide and the Ungarra district, Eyre Peninsula. Prints and negatives of some slides are also held in other series (Series 1, 3, and 4) and have been digitised in those. Listed below is a selection of the slides. Many of the slides have been digitised in series 3 and are not repeated in this list. Slides taken in the Middle East also have not been listed or digitised.
