The first carriage used on the Glenelg-Marino Railway. In the book 'City & Glenelg: the Municpal Tramways Trust Glenelg tram line', Andres & Triplow caption this photograph on page 6, "Glenelg Railway Company train in Althorpe Place (now named Colley Terrace), Glenelg, terminus of the line from North Terrace. The locomotive, originally owned by the Adelaide, Glenelg and Suburban Railway Company, is 4-4-0 tank locmotive no. 3, built by Robert Stephenson and Company."

'Glenelg & Adelaide Bus Service' is painted on its side along with the route: via Victoria Square, King William Street, South Terrace, Anzac Highway, North Tce., West Tce., King William Rd.' [On back of photograph] 'Model J Reo Speed Wagon 27.2 H Power / first bus built for Bay Rd. run trading as "Glenelg & Adelaide Bus Service." 21 capacity passenger seating / 19.6' length overall / 48 M.P.H. maximum speed / 1 ton 17 cwt. unladen / 13-14 miles per gallon on gasoline / 169,000 miles travelled up to 15 June 1926 / built by Messrs. Harris & Horgan / Angas St. Adelaide to design of T.C.S. Reynolds / Cost new 773 pounds / 26348 Regn. no. / original fare Adelaide to Glenelg 6d in 1923 for 6.25 miles / Railway fare at same time 10d / Present fare 6d in 1926 / Railway buses same fare / Rail fare 1/4d return / This is the 5th or 6th bus on the road in Adelaide and is the only one left of the original 6. Caption: 'When the Glenelg jetty blew away, April 1948. The 'Barcoo' in trouble'. The HMAS 'Barcoo', a 1420 tonne survey frigate, which was driven ashore just north of Glenelg after a gale tore through Adelaide in the early hours of Sunday 11 April 1948. The storm caused a lot of damage, wrecking boats, unroofing houses, uprooting trees, and sections of the Brigton and Glenelg jetties were swept away. The 'Barcoo' was later refloated. Glenelg train in southern King William Street

[General description] A crowd of people stand on the roadway in King William Street, near Angas Street, in readiness to board the train which is arriving at its terminus from Glenelg. On the right is Braun's Tea Rooms, displaying a sign that boasts 'This is the place for cakes and pastry: Best in the town'. The smoke billowing from the South Australian Railways 'P' class locomotive was the subject of continuous complaints and eventually, in 1914, the line was terminated at South Terrace. In 1929 the line was upgraded and electrified as the Glenelg tram line. [On back of photograph] 'King William Road [an error -- should be 'Street'] South, showing the Glenelg train.

Locomotive no. 1 of the Adelaide, Glenelg and Suburban Railway Company, soon after the line from King William Street to Glenelg was opened in August 1873. Behind the locomotive are two 4-wheeled passenger carriages. Photographed at the company's depot in the Park Lands on the corner of South Terrace and Peacock Road; the building is most likely a locomotive running shed. The locomotive was built by Robert Stephenson and Company [Information provided by a researcher].
