Summary

[General description] Mr. J.P. Scott is seated behind the wheel of the stationary bus which was the first private motor bus running between Glenelg and Adelaide. 'Glenelg & Adelaide Bus Service' is painted on its side along with the route: via Victoria Square, King William Street, South Terrace, Anzac Highway, North Tce., West Tce., King William Rd.' [On back of photograph] 'Model J Reo Speed Wagon 27.2 H Power / first bus built for Bay Rd. run trading as "Glenelg & Adelaide Bus Service." 21 capacity passenger seating / 19.6' length overall / 48 M.P.H. maximum speed / 1 ton 17 cwt. unladen / 13-14 miles per gallon on gasoline / 169,000 miles travelled up to 15 June 1926 / built by Messrs. Harris & Horgan / Angas St. Adelaide to design of T.C.S. Reynolds / Cost new 773 pounds / 26348 Regn. no. / original fare Adelaide to Glenelg 6d in 1923 for 6.25 miles / Railway fare at same time 10d / Present fare 6d in 1926 / Railway buses same fare / Rail fare 1/4d return / This is the 5th or 6th bus on the road in Adelaide and is the only one left of the original 6. (J.P. Scott Driver)' dated 15/6/1926' (Another hand) 'An updated news cutting in posession of Miss Sheardown states that the first bus on this route belonged to A. Sheardown.'
