Shearing shed, Boolcoomatta Station. At one time the 150 year old station ran 90,000 sheep. Some small scale copper mining relics can also be found on the property. The property was situated 100 km west of Broken Hill and 463 km north west of Adelaide. The area is now known as the Boolcoomatta Nature Reserve.

The General Store, proprietors at this time were Mr. & Mrs. A.G. Schmidt who also ran the Post Office and Commonwealth Bank agency. According toa researcher, James & Mary (Morrisy) Maxwell operated the Mingary store around the turn of the 20th century. James was born in Tapperary, Ireland 1849 and Mary was born in Llanally, Wales 1858. Mary died at Kilburn in 1937. Five of the ten children were born in the areas of Coburn, Broken Hill and Mingary.Annie Angela Maxwell was born at Brompton 1881.

Shearers' quarters, Mutooroo Station which is situated on the Mutooroo Creek 350 km north east of Adelaide and 74 km from Broken Hill. It is one of the most eastern homesteads in South Australia. It dates from 1885.

Mutooroo Station Homestead. Sir Keith Macpherson Smith (1890-1955) was a son of Andrew Smith who was station manager of the Mutooroo Pastoral Company and Mutooroo Station. Keith and his brother Ross were brought up at the station and later educated at Queen's School Adelaide and were aviators. Mutooroo Station is just south west of Broken Hill. In 1894 a fire burnt down the two storey shearer's quarters. This photograph shows the homestead, barns and various buildings that comprise the Mutooroo Station

Railway Yard, Peterborough
Railway coaling yard, Peterborough. The railway arrived in Petersburg (later Peterborough) in 1881 when the line from Jamestown opened. Carriage of ore from Broken Hill to the smelters at Port Pirie was the major contributor to the rail traffic through Peterborough with 70 trains a day passing through the town in 1898. Over the next fifteen years the line was recognised as the busiest single track railway in the world (1911-1914 especially so)

Team of cadets from Petersburg (Peterborough) led by Lieutenant Eric Chinner. The team competed in the military Competitions at Broken Hill in March 1913. The Quorn and Port Augusta Company came first with 653 points and the Petersburg Company second with 639 points.

Whyalla Post Office. Whyalla was founded in 1901 by Broken Hill Proprietary as a port when transporting iron ore from Iron Knob to the sea. By 1905 a permanent settlement was established and many buildings including the Post Ofice were built. It was proclaimed in 1914.

Mr. William Mahood: Founder of Waterloo Township. According to a researcher, he was born in County Cavan, Ireland, in 1821 to John Mahood and Catherine Wallace Mahood. Arrived in S.A. in 1840 on 'Mary Dugdale'. Lived Willunga, Gawler, Stockwell, Gumeracha, Marrabel, Waterloo S.A., then Broken Hill, then Cue W.A. Married Jane Smith. They had 9 children. Died Cue 1901.

Mrs. William Mahood, wife of the founder of Waterloo township. According to a researcher, Mrs William Mahood was born Jane Smith. Came to SA in 1840 as an infant on 'Dauntless' from Ireland. Father Robert Smith. Lived at Marrabel, Waterloo and Bagot's Well S.A., then Broken Hill N.S.W., then Cue W.A. Died at Cue in 1905.

William Pearson
William Pearson was a surveyor with the Lands Title Office. After arriving from England in 1849 he accompanied BT Finniss to the Northern Territory. Later he surveyed the border between NSW and SA camping at what was later to be named Broken Hill. He retired from the Lands Title Office in 1902 as he was over 70 years of age. He died aged 76.
