Summary

Battery house of the Bird in Hand gold mine, Woodside. Gold discovered in 1881 and 22,600 tonnes was extracted. Deeper levels of gold were detected in 1930. Bird in Hand Mine closed in 1889 due to competition for funding from Broken Hill and water difficulties. The photograph possibly depicts the mine's owner with his workers.
