Summary

The Bird in Hand Mine, Woodside. Gold was discovered in 1881 and 22,600 tonnes was extracted. Deeper levels of gold were detected in 1930. Bird in Hand Mine closed in 1889 due to competition for funding from Broken Hill and water difficulties. In this photograph the chimneys, stacks of firewood, minehead and general layout of the mine can be seen.
