Old fashioned steam launch on the River Murray. Under digital magnification the name of the vessel appears to be 'Adventurer' or similar.

Clyde, built at Echuca, and The Australien - built at Echuca in 1897. "Clyde" was built from a barge called "Mudie". According to a researcher, the P.S. Clyde was actually built up on the hull of the "Result" barge in 1888. Engineer James Quin died after getting his clothing caught by the engine shaft in 1907. "Australien" was launched in 1897. The Chinese cook Jimmy Ah Kee drowned in 1901. She last served as a logging steamer above Yarrawonga Weir.

"Dispatch" formerly the Tass. (Not the Dispatch which was built at Milang by A.H. Landseer in 1877) This boat was built in 1900 and was formerly named "Tass".

"Pioneer" later named the "William Randell", River steamer. No copying without permission from the Donor. "Pioneer" was 175 tons and built in 1870. There appear to have been two "Pioneers" in 1879. This one was later renamed "William Randell" about 1907.

[General description] River steamer 'Corowa' and barge 'Radia' moored at the river's edge. The river is narrow enough at this point to clearly see the gum trees on the opposite side. Passengers look over the railing of the middle deck, observing activity below of crew and passengers either boarding or loading.

River Steamer "Corowa". George Henry Alexander was born at Medindie in 1875 and moved to Morgan in 1880. He captained the "Corowa" from 1911-1913, and again in 1919. He married and turned to the hotel business in 1925.

Neptune Island Lighthouse

[General description] Two men, probably the Lighthouse keepers, pose high on the light platform of the Lighthouse. Others, probably officials, employees and family members pose at the base of the tower. Constructed from wrought and cast iron by London firm, Moreland and Sons, this tower was originally located at the entrance to the Port River in Port Adelaide from 1869 to 1901. During 1901 it was relocated, complete with a new light, to South Neptune Island, at the bottom of Cape Spencer. It has since been replaced by a new brick structure and returned to Port Adelaide (in 1984) where it now is part of a Maritime Museum.
