General notes

This photo was taken in Wentworth N.S.W. This is clearly evident by the water tower in the distance. This water tower still stands and is a famous landmark in the majority of photos taken at this port. The vessel in the distance is almost certainly the P.S. 'Colonel'. A derrick crane appears to be on the foredeck which the P.S. 'Colonel' had, and her overall features greatly resemble this vessel currently undergoing restoration in Murray Bridge. The photo was obviously taken from a three-decked vessel, one which appears to have a stairway running aft of the middle deck toilet and bath facilities. Of the four triple-decked vessels of the time, 'Gem', 'Ellen', 'Marion' and 'Ruby', only the 'Ruby' had such a staircase which leads me to believe the photo was taken from the P.S. 'Ruby'. The P.S. 'Ruby' was built between 1907 and 1909, which would date this photo after 1909 [from information provided by researcher]. Another researcher states that the steamer is the 'William Davies', which was similar in design and appearance to the 'Colonel', both being designed by A.J. Inches and built for Permewan Wright and Co., two years apart.
