[General description] Point McLeay Mission Station on Lake Alexandrina. Set in a sparsely treed landscape the station comprises a group of neat stone cottages, various outbuildings and a church. It was founded in 1859 by the Aborigines' Friends Association.

Point Malcolm Lighthouse

[General description] The Point Malcolm Lighthouse and keeper's cottage stands on a stark rocky outcrop on the eastern side of the narrows between Lake Alexandria and Lake Albert. It was built to assist shipping of the Murray River trade with expecations of its future growth. It was built by local Strathalbyn builder Richard Trenouth and its light was first displayed on February 1st, 1878. It is probably the only inland lighthouse in Australia.

The" Governor Musgrave ", Port Adelaide. The iron screw steamer was built in Mort's Dock, Balmain New South Wales in 1874. It was used as a lighthouse tender until 1914 when it was transferred to the Commonwealth Government.

The Strand, Port Elliot before the railway gates were put up. The Council Chamber is the small building on the left of the photograph. The Chamber incorporated the Town Hall from 1860 and was extended in 1878 and 1907. Joseph Croucher was the licensee of the Railway Hotel from 1882 to 1885 and from 1890 and 1895.

The "Governor Musgrave" stranded on a sand bar near Port Germein. She was built at Mort's Dock in Sydney in 1874. Registry was cancelled in 1925 when she was converted to a coal hulk.

The French barque Empereur Menelick on the left of the Port Germein jetty. Is was built in 1900 by A. Dubigeon, Nantes-Chantenay, France for Soc. Anon. des Armateurs Nantais, Nantes, France and launched on the 22 September. In 1912 is was sold to shipping company Skibs-A/S Buland (Pedersen & Mosvold), Farsund, Norway, and renamed Buland. In 1914, Martin Mosvold, Farsund became manager. In 1915 sold to shipping company A/S Excelsior (Sven O. Stray & Co.), Kristiansand, Norway and renamed Svarvarnut. In 1922 it was sold to shipping company A/S Norsk Rutefart (Sven O. Stray & Co.), Kristiansand, Norway. In 1925, broken up at Stavanger, Norway.

[General description] A group of men, possibly visiting dignitaries stand on the Port Hughes Jetty which is under construction, contractors being Messrs. Lewis & Reid, cost 18,330 pounds. A steam driven pile driver is seen in position at the end of the jetty which was opened in May 1913. Two ships, one sail and one steam are moored offshore. See B 11054 for another view.

[General description] The Port Hughes Jetty, under construction is seen with the steam piledriver in position and men and horses are at work at the water's edge. This is the same subject as B 11053, from another viewpoint with dunes in the foreground, two ships out at sea.

[General description] A peaceful scene showing sand dunes and beach following the curve of the bay where the Port Le Hunte jetty is seen in the distance. Storage sheds are located at the foot of the jetty and a coastal steamer is moored at its end. Salt and gypsum from Lake MacDonnell, wheat and wool were shipped out from this jetty.
