Flinders Column Tablet
[General description] This is the tablet at the base of the Flinders memorial column at the summit of Mount Lofty. The text engraved upon it reads: 'Flinders Column / In honour of Matthew Flinders / Commander of the Investigator / Who from Kangaroo Head, Kangaroo Island / discovered and named Mount Lofty / on Tuesday 23rd March 1802 / This tablet was unveiled and the column named / by his excellency Lord Tennyson. 22nd March 1902' For a photograph taken on that day, see B 8435. Flinders Column, Mount Lofty
[General description] Flinders Column, Mount Lofty in a bushland setting. The column was originally erected as a trig station in 1885 but was later dedicated to commemorate Matthew Flinders' sighting and naming of Mount Lofty in 1802. In an unveiling ceremony in March 1902 South Australian Governor Lord Tennyson officially named the column with the words: ' This column shall be known to all men for all generations as 'The Flinders column.' '

[General description] There are two bullock teams standing in front of the Mount Mary Hotel, situated in saltbush desert country near Morgan. One of the wagons is loaded with grain bags.


Tramway at Mundoora
The tram that ran from Port Broughton to Mundoora; it was known as the "second pie cart" and was built by J. Stephenson of New York. Notes on the back of the photograph say "6th from left - RW Foster, 7th from left - WD Ponder, 8th from left - John Bice, 9th from left - EL Bachelor, 10th from left - Tom Price, 11th from left - John Hill, 12th left ffrom WD Archibald, 13th from left - Ivor Macgillavry. The tram car shown in the view was built by J Stephenson, New York. 4' 8.5" gauge converted to 3' 6"


Murray Bridge Wharf

Tolarno built at Goolwa in 1879, the Kelvin (formerly Ariel built in 1867) converted into the Kelvin at Goolwa in 1912., Ruby built at Morgan in 1907. The photograph shows a busy scene of river steamers moored at the wharf, train wagons and buildings.


Public School, Murray Bridge
[General description] The Public school, Murray Bridge is a single storey stone building with a tall brick chimney. It was replaced in 1912 with a larger building in response to the rapid growth of Murray Bridge. However a researcher believes 'this is the replacement school built 1912. The original school opposite the railway station then became the post office. The building depicted was later enlarged by having further classrooms added to both wings, but remains in use'.
