Mr. Howchin had been general secretary of the 11th session of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science held in Adelaide in January 1907. Following the session the S.S. Governor Musgrave was made available to scientists to sail to Spencer's Gulf.

Military funeral in Adelaide

A military funeral in Adelaide led by a horse drawn cortege followed by slow marching soldiers bearing reversed arms. Suggested by a researcher that it is the funeral cortege of Sergeant Henry Hannam of B Company, 10th Australian Regiment, which took place on Sunday 7th July 1907 at the West Terrace Cemetery after a funeral procession through the city. This photo appears to have been taken on Sturt Street, just before Chatham Street and looking east. Obituaries for Sergeant Hannam appeared in "The Chronicle", Saturday 13 July 1907, page 29, and 'The Observer', Saturday 13 July 1907, page 38.

Visit by 63 school children from Leigh's Creek, Beltana, and Wilson state schools to Port Augusta on 6 December 1907. "They had been at the schools' exhibition at Quorn on the previous day and Mr Nadebaum, of the Leighs Creek School, having promised his pupils a sight of the sea, the Acting Director (Mr Maughan) arranged to have the idea enlarged, and scholars of the other schools joined in the outing....The Mayor (Mr T. Hewitson) and Mr J. Holdsworth (Chairman of the Board of Advice) met the children at the station. The mayor welcomed them, and intimated that a visit to the shipping, beach and a trip on the gulf had been arranged." (Port Augusta Dispatch 13 December 1907, page 2.).

Congregational Church, Sandy Creek. The church was built in 1904, with the foundation stone laid on 21 September 1904 by Mrs A.H. Austin, and opened on 23 November 1904. The vestry was added in 1907, with the vestry foundation stone laid on 17 July 1907 by Mrs F. Warner.

Riding a Camel. Note on back of photograph states " Mr H Wallis and camel from Alice Springs to Oodnadatta (340 miles) in 7 days". Photograph is of Frank Blackmore Wallis who was a resident of Stuart Town (Alice Springs) from around 1884 onwards. He ran various businesses and was known as the "Camel King", having at one stage owned 200 of them. In January 1907 he travelled 340 miles by camel from Alice to Oodnadatta in 7 days, in order to catch the train to Adelaide to visit his ill mother. This photograph appeared in The Chronicle 7 February 1907.

The gentleman on the right is Thomas George Adams, born in 1835 at Portsea, England, died 1907 at Edwardstown, S.A., son of John William Adams and Susanna, nee Fabian, 'Buffalo' passengers. According to a researcher, Thomas George Adams was the fourth child of John William Adams, and Susanna (Fabian) Adams, born In Portsea Hampshire 12 Mar 1835. He was the youngest child to make the voyage with his parents John William Adams and Susanna (Fabian) Adams on HMS Buffalo 1836. Thomas George Adams married Louisa Tilly about 1857.Louisa died of scarlet fever 10 December 1891. Thomas George Adams died on 1st August 1907, and is buried at West Terrace Cemetery.
