Owners: John Williams, registered Sydney, thence Isaac Chapman, Seaham Colliety and Daniel Sheehy. Converted to a hulk at Sydney in 1910].


The 'Wortanna' in an unidentified harbour
The iron schooner 'Wortanna', 213 tons, in an unidentified harbour [built as the iron paddle steam tug 'Albatross', sold and renamed Dec. 1918 and converted - iron auxiliary schooner, 213 gross, 163 net tons. ON74654, 131.4 x 21.1 x 10.4. Built 1875 Barclay, Curle and Co. Glasgow. 1918 = 8 cyl oil engine. Owners: WJ Wardle (Adelaide), registered Mlebourne; 1918 Frank A Verco; 1920 Victor Reeves (Hobart); 1921 Cairns Timber Ltd.; June 1922 Adelaide Steamship Co. Ltd. and altered into a sugar lighter. Requisitioned by US Forces in WW2. Then returned to owners, no longer described as auxiliary schooner, but twin screw motor ship. Stranded near the entrance to Mourilyan Harbour, Queensland and declared a constructive total loss. See 'The Adelaide Line' by Parsons, July 1975].

Owners from 1882 DH McKenzie and others, registered Auckland: 1884 P Dolbel, registered Napier 1902 Nelson and Robertson, registered Sydney, then Edward Pike and Co. Ltd, 1914 - E Taylor, registered Hobart. Wrecked north east coast of King Island Bass Strait, July 3, 1915 when bound to Adelaide with timber].

Owners: 1869 Joseph Stone, Port Adelaide: Nov. 1872 briefly owned in Melbourne, returns Port Adelaide 1873 to S Pridmore and others, until sold 1881 to J Graves, registered Hobart. 1893 CG Warburton, Sydney coal factor, registered Sydney, hulked at Sydney about 1902].

Built 1875 Liverpool, reportedly bought on the stocks by John Fisher in 1875. Owners: John Fisher, registered Hobart, 1876, later the same year Fisher and Facy. c.1909 The Hobart Timber Co., who enroll ship at Port Adelaide, in May 1913. The iron barque 'Aldebaran', 466 tons, in Woolwich on Sydney Harbour. [Iron 3 mast barque, 429t ON 106250, 150.9 x 27.3 x 15.9, Built 1869 Oswald & Co. Sunderland, as 'Concordia' for French owners, subsequently became German under the same name. i. 1899 - sold to Australia and renamed 'Aldebaran', owners Harrison Douglas & James, Smith, reg. Sydney 1912. sold Union SS Co. of NZ Ltd. and converted to a coal hulk for use in Hobart. Sold by them in April 1948, and used to form a breakwater at Dunalley near Hobart.] Photographed at Mort's Dock, Sydney. [Note from Ron Parsons - Hulk Concordia steel 1913. Ron Parsons cannot locate any vessel to fit this description (ie steel 1913) There was an iron hulk of this name in Fremantle (1076 tons) between 1913 - 1948].

Liverpool, N.S. Owners: Y. Wing (of Sydney, NSW) reg. Liverpool N.S.: 1920 The Patrick Steamship Co. Ltd (Sydney), reg. Auckland: 1923 L.F. Atkins (Perth): G.S.H. Atkins & J.H. Finlayson (both Adelaide), reg. Fremantle c. 1926/6 Abemama Shipping Co. Ltd (Perth). Driven ashore Woodman's Point, Cockburn Sound, WA June 17, 1927 and the wreck took fire and was destroyed June 29. While the property of Patricks was engaged in conveying coal across the Tasman and returning with timber to Australia.]

Built CG Framnaes, Sandefjord, Norway, in 1892 and then described as a barque of 1366 gross, 1332 net tons. Condemned c.1904 apparently in Sydney. When built named 'Fortuna' renamed at a time unknown.1906 - owners Narabeen Ship Co. Ltd. and Dan Patrick Wall, registered Sydney. Wrecked off Honolulu, August 1910].

British Official number 153923. 236.5 x 42.0 x 29.0. Built 1918 J. Robertson, Benica California and named 'Oronite' (not US Oronite as on some captions) twin diesal engines, 110 nhp. Owners: c.1926 EC Sharpe, registered Panama, 1928 Southern Cross Shipping Co. Pty.Ltd. Registered Melbourne. Register closed 1933 'Broken up'. (NB the vessel does not appear to have been registered in USA)].

The wooden schooner 'Marchioness of Lorne'. 78 tons, in an unidentified harbour [wooden 2 mast topsail schooner, 78 tons. ON64373. 82.8 x 19.1 x 7.9. Built 1871 George Dent, junior, Jervis Bay, New South Wales. From January 1875 in the timber trade working out of Maryborough Queensland. Owner William Pettigrew and Co. Sank in the Mary River during floods in February 1893, and abandoned as a constructive total loss. See 'Port of Maryborough' by Parsons, 1976].

The iron barque 'John Murray', 1264 tons, in an unidentified port. Also refer to prints PRG 1373/31/16 and PRG 1373/31/17 [iron ship, c.1898-1900 barque. 1264 tons. ON76738. 228.5 x 35.8 x 10.7. Built 1877 (1) J&G Thomson, Glasgow. Owners: James Arthur and others, registered Glasgow. Later General Shipping Co. (Aitken and Lilburn, managers) sold 1910 to Defence Department of Government of Victoria, for use as a training ship, and renamed 'John Murray'. Used for commerical purposes during WW1 she was wrecked at Malden Island, mid - Pacific, July 1918. No lives lost].
