Summary

The wooden brigantine 'Waterwitch', 165 tons, in Circular Quay, looking north west; the old Commisariat Building is in the left background. [Wooden 2 mast brigantine, 165 tons, ON69745, 115.5 x 25.0 x 9.4. Built 1873 Richard Phegan, Cape Hawke, NSW. Owners: JY Phillips, registered Sydney. Stranded Torres Strait 1884, and sold as a wreck. Repaired and re-registered Rockhampton, c.1890 to 1903, when broken up, owned by Francis King Terry].

From the volume titled 'Australian Owned Sailing Vessels'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
