The wooden brigantine 'Vailele', 158 tons, in an unidentified harbour ['Forest King' = brigantine owned in Brisbane from 1883 till 1887, and then in Sydney until renamed 'Vailele'. For further details see under that name] [wooden 2 mast brigantine, 172 gross, 158 net tons. ON62138. 95.2 x 22.3 x 13.1. Built 1868 Chas. Gent, Plymouth (and named 'Forest King') renamed 1890. Owners: John Williams, registered Sydney, thence Isaac Chapman, Seaham Colliety and Daniel Sheehy. Converted to a hulk at Sydney in 1910].

From the volume titled 'Australian Owned Sailing Vessels'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
