Summary

The iron barque 'Aldebaran', 466 tons, in Woolwich on Sydney Harbour. [Iron 3 mast barque, 429t ON 106250, 150.9 x 27.3 x 15.9, Built 1869 Oswald & Co. Sunderland, as 'Concordia' for French owners, subsequently became German under the same name. i. 1899 - sold to Australia and renamed 'Aldebaran', owners Harrison Douglas & James, Smith, reg. Sydney 1912. sold Union SS Co. of NZ Ltd. and converted to a coal hulk for use in Hobart. Sold by them in April 1948, and used to form a breakwater at Dunalley near Hobart.] Photographed at Mort's Dock, Sydney. [Note from Ron Parsons - Hulk Concordia steel 1913. Ron Parsons cannot locate any vessel to fit this description (ie steel 1913) There was an iron hulk of this name in Fremantle (1076 tons) between 1913 - 1948].

From the volume titled 'Australian Owned Sailing Vessels'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
