Owners: General Shipping Co., (Aitken and Lilburn, managers) registered Glasgow. Wrecked at Curdie's Inlet, June 1, 1878. About 27 miles west of Cape Otway, Victoria, with the loss of all but two of her complement of 52. One of the most sensational wrecks on the Australian coast and a whole body of literature has been built up around this disaster. Much too voluminous to list here. Almost any publication touching upon shipwreck in Australia will mention this wreck - a number of full length books have been written on the subject].
