Summary

The four masted steel barque 'Pyrenees', 2243 tons, after being renamed the 'Manga Reva' [steel 4 mast barque, 2243 tons, ON98670, 284.5 x 42.5 x 24.7. Built 1891 (9) Charles Connell and Co., Glasgow. Owners: J Hardie and Co., registered Glasgow. Took fire while on a voyage from Tacoma to Leith and was beached Nov. 16, 1900 at Manga Reva Lagoon, in the South Pacific. Abandoned, she was later salvaged and re-registered as the American vessel 'Manga Reva' in 1905].

One of the ships owned by Hardie's Fleet / J. Hardie and Co., Glasgow.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
