Summary

The iron barque 'King Alfred', 1319 tons, under sail [possibly also known as 'Generosita' or 'Generocita'] [iron 3 mast barque, 1319 tons. ON93252, 228.0 x 36.5 x 21.0. Built 1886 (3) Barclay, Curle and Co. Glasgow. Owners: JA Walker and Co. Registered Glasgow. Sold to Italians in 1910 and renamed 'Lucia', subsequently renamed 'Provvidenza' and lastly 'Generosita'. Broken up under last name in 1924].

One of the ships owned by The 'King' Line / J.A. Walker and Co., Glasgow.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
