[General description] Twin cottages on the southern side of Pirie Street near Ackland Street. A woman is holding a baby and standing at one of the front picket gates. Nextdoor to the cottages stands The Federal Lime Company Limited Lime and Cement Merchants. [On back of photograph] Acre 214. Pirie Street, south side. 1909-14. Probably 1909. See B 7787/29. Residence of the Town Hall manager Mr Gapp. Mr Gapp and his wife and family can be seen in the gateway to his house. The modest stone cottage stands on Acre 203 on the corner of King William Street and Pirie Street. The Prince Alfred Hotel abuts the cottage and this photograph was taken on June 7th, 1898 looking north east. The little building was at one time (1852) the Adelaide Corporation Chamber. See B 465 and B 81. Beyond the one storey building can be seen the back of the Pirie Street Wesleyan Church.

[General description] The new premises of Barnet Glass' rubber manufacturers are a two storey corner building in the art deco style and feature a curved cantlever verandah. The tyres manufactured by this company were very well regarded, 'miles cheaper and Australian' and their Boomerang anti-skid tread tyres were famous by 1917. This firm eventually merged with the Dunlop Tyre Company. Number One shows the harbour with two ships, possibly ketches, moored at the wharves withwarehouses and railway in the foreground. The second shows the railway with rolling stock in the centre of the main street and city buildings and shops. [General description] This view of city street and buildings is dominated by the cooling towers of the Adelaide Electric Supply Company which was founded in 1904. [On back of photograph] 'Acres 156, 157 / Pirie Street, north side. / June 15, 1926. / The two storey building in foreground is 38 1/2 yards west of East Terrace. East face of Electric Supply Co.'s cooling towers is 53 yards west of East Terrace and measures about 55 yards. Pirie Street frontage frontage of towers measures 17.5 yards. Cooling towers demolished in 1926.'

This building was on the south eastern corner of Ackland Street and Pirie Street and was demolished in 1955. A sign above the entrance says "HC Sleigh". [General Description] The north side of Pirie Street between Coromandel Place and Chesser Street showing the frontage of the Onslow Buildings. Some of the business' in this building include A.J. Baker Picture Framers, Poloware and Sports Depot, Pawnbrokers, Raleigh Depot, C.W. Rose Importers and Kruss the Printer. A penny farthing bicycle is leaning against a telegraph pole outside the Onslow Buildings. A lady wearing an elaborate hat is looking at paintings in the A.J. Baker Shop. [General description] This modern three storey corner building exudes confidence. Its lines are plain but there are art deco touches in the leadlight detail in the top storey windows and the decorative parapet bearing the name of the company. It is only just completed as the windows are still whitewashed and shops on the ground floor have 'to let' signs in their windows. The firm was founded by Alfred George Healing in 1896, initially producing bicycles, but later diversified into manufacturing radios, television sets, refrigerators and washing machines. Two cars are seen on the road in the foreground, one a flat-bed utility. [General description] Telegraph and Post Office in Ellen Street at Port Pirie. The wooden building has a raised front verandah. Next to the Post Office is Brown and Wood Importers of Grocery, drapery, ironmongery and agricultural implements. This is a branch of a retail department store from Waymouth Street in Adelaide. The footpath and road look muddy. [On back of photograph] no information given.

Geddes Memorial Congregational Hall, Port Pirie. Peter Geddes Memorial Hall was opened in 1918. Ernest Green, Deacon of the Florence Street Congregational Church was instrumental in having the hall built. The Norman Street hall has a gabled porch entrance with three pointed arched windows and vents to gable.

[General description] The corner building is a factory manufacturing Whybrow's Exhibit footwear. On the right is another newer building, possibly another factory. A sign on one of the utility poles on the corner says "Caution drive slowly". [On back of photograph] 'Acre 214 / Pirie Street, south side / May 16th, 1926 / The low brick building on the east side of Ackland St. was erected in 1925 on what was, for the most part, a vacant site, and at the same time the two storey building on the corner underwent slight alterations. For view of the corner building prior to alteration see B 2512. Pirie St. frontage of Whybrow's: 8 1/2 yards. Far side of new building is 40 yards south of Pirie St. The single storey cottage on the extreme left was demolished in 1941. For view of the building erected on site see B 10893.'

PORT PIRIE: Ellen Street : a goods train. The Barrier Hotel on the left opened in 1892. Pelham's Butcher shop on the right was demolished in 1894 and a new two-storey Pelham Building was constructed and is still standing in 2021.
