King William Street, west side, near side of Lorne Chambers is 37 yards south of Waymouth Street and Pirie Street. Buildings along the west side of King William Street include the Post Office on the corner of Franklin Street, a watchmaker and jeweller, Criterion Hotel, Esselbach's Cafe - Ladies Refreshment Rooms upstairs, and downstairs is fruiterer Alfred J Harvery. Lorne Chambers is above a stationer. The next building houses Triumph Cycle Agency and the auctioneers Matters and Company. There are horses and carriages lined up in the middle of King William Street outside the Town Hall awaiting passengers. People riding bicyles and pedestrians complete the scene.

'Old scholars group' from Pulteney Street School, pictured in Albert Hall, Pirie Street celebrating the 50th anniversary of the opening of the school. The following information was provided by the Pulteney archives: Jubilee Reunion Concert and Social to mark the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Pulteney street school (consisting of speeches, music, singing and refreshments) was held on Monday 15 August 1898 in the Albert Hall, Pirie Street. Two hundred and ten tickets at 1 shilling and sixpence each were sold.The Rev WS Moore presided and was joined on the stage by two distinguished old scholars, Frederick W Holder (Treasurer of SA) and John Darling,MP, who spoke with feeling of their days at Pulteney Street School when Moore was their Headmaster. Holder had also been one of Moore's junior assistants at one time. Speeches were interspersed with musical items under the direction of the Cathedral organist Mr JM Dunn. Two boys from the school, RG Hosking and C Pizey contributed to the programme [SA Register 16 August 1898, p3]. The white bearded man at front is EK Miller (first headmaster) and next to him (his left) is RC Mitton (4th headmaster). WS Moore (8th headmaster) is possibly the white haired and bearded man further to their left.

This three storey building also houses a firm of solicitors, Colonial Sugar Refining Company, WL Ware financial agent, mining and estate agent and D. Williams and Charles T. Good Architects, and at Number 96 King William Street stands a licensed land broker.

[General description] A buggy drawn by a pair of grey horses is standing in the foreground of this view of the Clarence Hotel. People are grouped on the large balcony, others are standing in front of the building. G.R. Dowdy and J. Lewis were the licensees of this hotel 1891-99, later in 1917 the name was changed to the Majestic until its demolition in 1981. There was a hotel on this site since 1857. The Tobacco Company of South Australia premises were erected in 1929 on a site formerly occupied by a corrugated iron structure. Galvanised iron structure was replaced by a new building in 1952. Queen's Chamber, Pirie Street (next to the Town Hall) on the north east corner of King William Street. This sketch depicts the Queen's Chambers in 1870s and was probably drawn before 1875 when Eagle Chambers (next door) were completed. It was an attractive two storey building with arched windows and a low wrought iron balcony on the first floor.

This photograph shows the alterations made to Plymouth House in 1935. Compare this with B 5743. The two storey building is built in the art deco style and has a solid hanging awning across the front. Cars and bicycles are parked in the street.
