Gawler Place
[General description] The eastern side of Gawler Place between Grenfell Street and Pirie Street.The premises include G. Hislop's Bedding Factory, Enterprise Shoe Company, Peacock and Company Limited Leather and Grindery Warehouse, Haste Importers, W.C. Rigby stationers and bookbinders, Lellman Jewellers, Bourne the Tailor, and the Offices of National Cash Register. Men on bicycles, a horse and cart and pedestrians can be seen. [On back of photograph] Acres 144 and 167. Gawler Place, east side. 1909-10. Probably 1909. See B 7787/24. On the right is Pirie Street. Near side of Hislop's shop is 65 and a haf yards south of Grenfell Street.

A bullock team pulling a grain wagon through Ellen Street in Port Pirie; their owner stands nearby holding the long bullock whip. The building in the centre is the Town Hall. The distinctive tower of the Railway Station is also visible in the distance.

East Terrace, Adelaide
East Terrace, Adelaide. The right side of the houses is 29 yards north of Pirie Street (which is on the left). Cottages between the converter station and Pirie Street were demolished starting in August 1922, when the photo was taken, the job being completed in 1924. Subsequently an electrical plant was erected on the site.
Hindmarsh Square, Adelaide
[General description] In front of Griffiths Brothers' Tea, Coffee, Cocoa and Chocolate Merchants a man appears to be loading something into a company vehicle, whilst a boy wearing a cap looks on. Other motor related business premises can be seen in the centre of the view and the Y.W.C.A. building is toward the right. [On back of photograph] 'Acres 164 and 147 / Hindmarsh Square, west side / Oct. 1, 1925 / Cantilever verandah erected in 1925 on premises between Griffiths' and the Young Women's Christian Association. Cantilever verandah erected in 1926 in front of Griffith's premises. Left side of Griffiths is 35 yards north of Pirie Street. Right side of Turner's is 78 yards north of Pirie Street. A large single story wood and iron building was erected on the site of W. Turner's and All British Automobiles buildings in 1941.' (Another hand) 'See B 12327.'
Hindmarsh Square, Adelaide
[General description] There is a variety of cars parked in front of this two storey colonial stone hotel at 138 Pirie Street,. The Utility with bales (wool?) stacked on the tray has the name 'B. Falkenberg, Cambrai' on its door. This hotel is about to undergo a complete change of image with an Art Deco upgrade. Hindmarsh Square
Hindmarsh Square, west side, near side of the three storey building is 35 yards north of Pirie Street and right side of Turners is 78 yards north of Pirie Street. This photograph shows the buildings in the north west corner of Hindmarsh Square. Several of them contain businesses pertaining to the motor industry.
Gawler Place, Adelaide
Gawler Place, Adelaide, east side, close to Pirie Street, featuring cottages with mullion windows. The galvanised iron roofs show that the date is after 1870. (Compare with Duryea's 1870 panorama.) This view was taken before the erection of the Onslow buildings on the corner of Pirie Street and Gawler Place. See B 2478 for one of the buildings, soon after completion. Gawler Place, Adelaide
Gawler Place, Adelaide, west side, south of Pirie Street. This view, taken on December 19th, 1923, shows the upper portion of the Simpson's Building, just after completion.
