In front of the hotel horse cabs for hire are standing. On the left the empty clockface of the Town Hall can be seen. [The clock was installed in 1935.] The left side of the hotel is 46 yards south of Pirie Street.

Town Hall, King William Street showing the Eagle Chambers on the Pirie Street side. The Town Hall was designed by Wright and Woods and built in 1863-6. Its portico and tower influenced later buildings. The building attached to the Town Hall on the right was originally the Prince Alfred Hotel. Eagle Chambers attached to the left of the Town Hall was built in 1874.

Businesses south of the Stock Exchange building include Theo Bruce and Company auctioneers. At number 22 stands Ernest Benda the tobacconist. Next door stands George C Twiss shareboker. Several pedestrians are walking along Exchange Place, all are wearing hats. The Stock Exchange was designed by HE Fuller and Hedley A Dunn is built in the style of Federation and Edwardian buildings.
