Owners Thomas Henderson and Partner, registered Newcastle upon Tyne, later Adam, Hamilton and Co. and in 1887 re-rigged as a ship, and register transferred to Greenock where the owners enrolled her in the name of Grianaig Shipping Co. with themselves as managers].

On her first voyage was wrecked in Le Maire Straits near Cape Horn, August 1910].

(Aitken, Lilburn and Co., managers) registered Glasgow. Wrecked Kangaroo Island in September 1905. The remains of her hull have been examined by skindivers (1977) all hands were lost. She was not seen again after speaking to SS 'Yongala' Sept. 6, 1905, about 150 miles from Kangaroo Island].

Sold c.1907 and renamed 'Antares' by Italian owners. Wrecked off the Victorian coast, west of Peterborough late in 1914, with the loss of her entire crew when on a voyage from Marseilles to Melbourne. Apparently struck the base of a high cliff and foundered].

The iron ship 'Loch Ard', 1624 tons, in an unidentified harbour [iron ship, 1693 tons, ON68061, 262.7 x 38.3 x 23.0. Built 1873 (11) Charles Connell and Co. Glasgow. Owners: General Shipping Co., (Aitken and Lilburn, managers) registered Glasgow. Wrecked at Curdie's Inlet, June 1, 1878. About 27 miles west of Cape Otway, Victoria, with the loss of all but two of her complement of 52. One of the most sensational wrecks on the Australian coast and a whole body of literature has been built up around this disaster. Much too voluminous to list here. Almost any publication touching upon shipwreck in Australia will mention this wreck - a number of full length books have been written on the subject].

Built 1889. British owned. Wrecked on her maiden voyage outside Port Phillip Heads, Victoria. Feb. 12, 1890].

Sold 1898 to German owners and renamed 'Nal' after the war was allotted to the French who sold her to English buyers, and she was then sold to the free port of Dantzig, all without change of name. Abandoned in an apparently sinking condition off Cape Horn, January 16, 1922].

Built 1868 (2) A Stephens and Sons, Glasgow. Owners: John Norman junior, registered Maryport, then various others until 1899 when enrolled at Sydney by GJ Robertson and others. c.1905/6 G Sweet, registered Melbourne. c.1908/9 sold to Melbourne SS Co., and converted into a coal hulk that was employed in Albany and Fremantle in the 1920s. Eventually dismantled at Melbourne. Sometimes incorrectly called 'Maggie Moore' in her coal hulk days].

London: 1881. GA Phillips, reg. Newcastle, NSW and transferred to Port Adelaide in Oct. 1883. Owners W. Llewellin, Wm. McLean & John Whittingham. Transferred to Melbourne June 1885 by the same owners. In November 1898 the ship was sold by order of the Court of the Cape of Good Hope and was re-registered in Port Natal. Returned to Australian owners in 1900 at Newcastle NSW and sold to Union SS Co. of NZ Ltd for use as a hulk at Launceston, Tas., and later was used in the same capacity at Devonport. Was sold for breaking up in January 1927. In the early part of her career was employed in the UK-Tasmania run.]

Letters written from Leipzig, Germany, during World War I, by Caroline Ethel Cooper to her sister Mrs Emmie Bevan Carr, in Adelaide. Miss Cooper, a musician, was allowed to stay on in Leipzig during the war. The letters were numbered and kept by Miss Cooper until after the war, with the exception of the first bundle which was taken from Germany by a friend.

Describes conditions at Port Adelaide and Adelaide, including her experiences of South Australia, including staying on the ship in fear of travelling the 5 mile voyage in a small boat to the mainland, encounters with natives, dangerous journeys into Adelaide where she was lucky if the horse and carriage remained unturned on account of the terrible roads and general descriptions of the Kapunda mines, early streets, houses and vegetation.
