William Oswald Whitridge (Jnr) 5/11/1884-1/6/1961, son of William Oswald Whitridge 1853-1919 and Marie Eleanore Whitridge (nee Korber) 1853-1924, was born at 'Ringmer' Wyatt Road, Burnside. He was the first student of Muirden College, Adelaide with his brother Charles Clyde Whitridge where his outstanding achievements were in shorthand, typing and book keeping. He began his career in clerical work. He joined the Australian Imperial Forces in the First World War 1914-1918. He was posted to France where he was wounded and transferred to Harefield Military Hospital in London before returning home to Adelaide. He acquired land at Eden Hills where he built the family home at 10 Wonoka Street (now fully renovated to enhance its original style). In the years ahead his wife Williamina suffered from severe mental depression which resulted in admission to Parkside Hospital (now Glenside) and remained there until she died in 1966. William continued to raise his two children Aileen Willa Hissey (nee Whitridge) 23/3/1910-30/4/1993 and Gordon Oswald Whitridge, 18/4/1912-. He took on employment as a strawberry farmer on his land in Wonoka Street. Along with his son Gordon they established the Eden Hills Voluntary Fire Service and became a well known identity in the Eden Hills/Blackwood area carrying out his duties as fire officer until well into retirement age. He suffered many health problems due to his war injuries and died peacefully at the War Veterans Hospital at Magill in 1961 aged 77. Williamina's mother was Catherine Tillett (nee Andrew) 28/11/1850-15/8/1945 and her grandmother was Andrina Andrew (nee Nicolson) 7/12/1832-24/7/1918. John Tillett is the second child to John and Catherine Tillett and Katie Tillett was the sixth child.
