Summary

The steel 4 masted barque 'Lord Ripon', 2765 tons, in an unidentified harbour [steel 4 mast barque, 2765 tons, ON99385, 318.0 x 43.2 x 24.5. Built 1892 (3) Grangemouth Dockyard Co. Alloa. Owners: Sailing Ship Lord Ripon Ltd. (J Harron and Co.) registered Liverpool. Sold 1898 to German owners and renamed 'Nal' after the war was allotted to the French who sold her to English buyers, and she was then sold to the free port of Dantzig, all without change of name. Abandoned in an apparently sinking condition off Cape Horn, January 16, 1922].

From the volume titled 'British Owned Iron and Steel Ships (IV) Masted Barques and Ships'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
