Summary

The iron ship 'Eildenhope', 1539 tons, in an unidentified port [iron ship, reduced to barque mid 1880's. 1539 gross tons. ON76199, 240.0 x 37.3 x 22.9. Built 1876 (10) W Gray and Co. West Hartlepool. Owners Thomas Henderson and Partner, registered Newcastle upon Tyne, later Adam, Hamilton and Co. and in 1887 re-rigged as a ship, and register transferred to Greenock where the owners enrolled her in the name of Grianaig Shipping Co. with themselves as managers].

From the volume titled 'British Owned Iron and Steel Ships (III)'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
