Angas Street, north side, Adelaide, on 6 September 1922. On the extreme right is Simpson's factory. All of the houses (with the exception of the two storey building on extreme left) were demolished in December 1923, subsequently Simpson's erected a galvanised factory extension on site. The right side of the two storey house on extreme left is 61 yards east of Chancery Lane. The two storey house on the right stands on the south east corner of acre 371.

[General description] The newly completed Convent of Mercy Private School. It is a two storey building with one three storey section constructed of brick and featuring a motif on the wall with a geometric pattern including a cross. Three men (and a dog) pose outside the Old Colonist Hotel which is partially visible on the right. Mrs. H. McGuire is the licensee at the time. The cottage formerly on this site was demolished before a photograph could be taken. The red brick cottage is built in the California bungalow style with columns holding up the verandah. Acre 385 is on the corner of Morphett Street and Gouger Street.

He was an Italian immigrant who started his business in Ward street, North Adelaide in 1938 but he was interned two years later at the beginning of WW11. He re-started his business after the war. [General description] The Hotel Gouger is a solid stone two storey corner building with arched windows and doors, its exterior has barely changed since 1927. It was founded by John Bailey and opened on 23rd March, 1838 as the Angel Inn. It traded under that name until 1947 after which it had several name changes. [General description] A newly completed two storey brick building with a balcony is sandwiched between older cottages. A bicycle is parked at the kerb in the foreground. [On back of photograph] 'Acre 396 / Rutland Place, south side / 8 February, 1938 / The two storey building was erected in 1937 on the site of a cottage / The cottage was demolished before a photograph could be taken / The left side of balconied building is 19 yards west of Lowe Street / Frontage 10 1/2 yards'. In her book 'Bert Edwards: King of the West End' (Wakefield Press, 2019) author Pat Sumerling writes that the building was owned by city councillor and politician Bert Edwards and was used as a clubrooms. Set up as a dance hall it was intended for young people on Sunday nights. It also housed the West Adelaide Ramblers sporting club and was sometimes known as Edwards' Hall, (pages 191-192).
