Residence of the Town Hall manager Mr Gapp. Mr Gapp and his wife and family can be seen in the gateway to his house. The modest stone cottage stands on Acre 203 on the corner of King William Street and Pirie Street. The Prince Alfred Hotel abuts the cottage and this photograph was taken on June 7th, 1898 looking north east. The little building was at one time (1852) the Adelaide Corporation Chamber. See B 465 and B 81. Beyond the one storey building can be seen the back of the Pirie Street Wesleyan Church.

[General description] The Prince Alfred Hotel and Town Hall buildings on King William Street. Cars are parked at the kerb. The Prince Alfred Hotel was first licenced in 1869 and ceased commercial operation in 1953. General description] A festive atmosphere prevails as a large crowd has gathered to see Prince Edward at the Town Hall which is decorated with flags and bunting. Soldiers are lined up along both sides of the street and mounted army and police (on their greys) are present. [General description] The Pirie Street Wesleyan Church and Manse. The foundation stone of the church was laid on the 15th July, 1850, and the building was finished in the early 1850s. It was built in 1850 from stone with cement rendered facade and dressings, and a staircase on the side of the building. Note the large roof vents. [General description] Designed by architect George Klewitz Soward, the Epworth Building is a seven storey U shaped building with Gothic inspired ornamentation. It was built by the Methodist Church on the site of the old Methodist Manse as a commercial investment. The style is Gothic with a strong ecclesiastical feel. Old Congregational Chapel, Gawler Place. An article from the Advertiser, dated 6th February 1925, accompanies this photo. It deals with A.Simpson & Son's intention to demolish and replace it with an extension to their premises, and also gives a brief history of the church. The chapel stood on the southern portion of acre 205. It faced east and was about 16 yards back from the street frontage. The site is shown on the Cadastral Survey Plan.

Gawler Place, west side near Pirie Street. The building was formerly used as a Congregational Chapel. The stone building faces east and stands back about 16 yards from the street alignment. The southern wall is about 5 yards north of the southern boundary of the acre. The photograph depicts the business premises of A Simpson and Son. A sack is being lowered from a barn next door and a horse and cart is being loaded with boxes. A bearded gentleman in a bowler hat is coming out the the warehouse.

[General description] A man stands at an open side door of the old Congregational Church. There are wooden crates and a barrel nearby. This photograph would have been taken at the time when A. Simpson & Sons intended to demolish the building to expand their premises. Designed by George Strickland Kingston, the building was completed in November 1840. After the Stow Memorial Congregational Church was built in 1867, it was no longer used as a place of worship but was put to varying uses. The view shows empty paddocks with washing lines billowing in the wind on the acres between Grenfell Street and Pirie Street. The spire of the Evangelical Lutheran Bethlehem Church in Flinders Street can be seen to the right of the photograph. A researcher suggests that the buildings are the Union Bank of Australia, then the manse, side of Wesleyan Methodist Church and that the spire is St. Andrews.

The architect was Mr. H. T. Griggs and the builders were Messrs. Webber and Williams. [General description] The new premises of Barnet Glass' rubber manufacturers are a two storey corner building in the art deco style and feature a curved cantlever verandah. The tyres manufactured by this company were very well regarded, 'miles cheaper and Australian' and their Boomerang anti-skid tread tyres were famous by 1917. This firm eventually merged with the Dunlop Tyre Company.
