The Church, extreme left, built around 1856, was demolished in 1940. Taken on the 14th March, 1889. Frontage: about 46 yards.

A group of men stand at the gate of a group of condemned cottages which display what appears to be a 'For Sale' sign. North side / September 27, 1927 / On the left is Morney Street. On the right is Byron Place.' (Another hand) 'All the cottages to the right of the 8th door and window opening were demolished in 1927. [General description] This view features the premises of Coventry Motors, a cottage and the Sportsman's Hotel with utility poles and wires silhouetted against the sky. A pair of heavily pruned ficus trees stand at the roadside. Children are playing in front of the building and near two large crates. William N. White is the licensee of the Hotel at this time. [On back of photograph] 'Acres 327 & 326 / Grote Street. South side / Feb. 27, 1926 / Coventry Motors Ltd. premises converted from a cottage in 1925. Compare with B 3164. / Near side of Sportsman's Hotel (on extreme right) is 43 yards west of Oakley Street.'

Grote Street, Adelaide, north side. The east end of these cottages, erected in 1865, is about 12 yards west of Byron Place. Demolition of the condemned cottages east of the right chimney is in progress. The cottages to the right of the gap were demolished in 1927. St. Patrick's Church, Grote Street, Adelaide. This building was replaced by a new, larger one in 1914 (see B 2457). The foundation stone was laid in 1844 (vide Reverend R.A. Morrison), and its tower was built in 1870 (see 'Register', 3rd January, 1871, p. 11). The western point of the Church is 36 yards east of West Terrace. Adelaide High School. Grote Street, south side, 24 October 1935, east corner of Brown Street on right, site for one storey portion, near side is 9.5 yards east of Brown Street and frontage is 48 yards, site of two storey portion, near side is 71 yards east of Brown Street and frontage is 41 yards.During 1908 the Pupil Teacher School, Grote Street Model School and the Advanced School for Girls amalgamated to form the Adelaide Continuation School in Grote Street under the leadership of Mr WJ Adey. In July the name was changed to the Adelaide High School. This became the first mixed free High School in the Commonwealth. The school was cramped for space and in the early 1930's the boys were tutored in buildings in Currie Street.

The twin roofed brick building houses Wunderlich Limited who are manufacturers of metal ceilings, wall linings and tiles. Two cars are parked outside the building. [On back of photograph] Acre 313. North west corner of Grote Street and Morphett Street, 22 February 1926. Wunderlich's premises erected in 1925. For buildings formerly on site see B 2701. Grote Street frontage of Wunderlich's: 30 yards. Morphett Street frontage (excluding the light coloured building in course of erection on the right) : 29 yards.

Grote Street, south side, looking west, May 1898, near side of the two storey house on the left is 26.5 yards west of Brown Street. The two storey house has a bay window, shutters, a wrought iron lace fenced balcony and stands next to the Grote Street Baker that offers 'dinners baked daily'. More brick buildings can be seen through the trees looking west along the southern side of Grote Street.

Cowell's building erected in 1933/34 frontage Grote Street is 31 yards; Victoria Square frontage is 23 yards. Compare this view with B 6301. for a view of the Rechabite Hall after alterations made in 1952 see B 12455. Horses and carts along with cars are parked outside this building. A three storey building stands next door to Cowell Brothers in Grote Street. The tramlines can be seen in the foreground in the west of Victoria Square.

Andrew Street, north side, 9 February 1934. Near side of cottages is 30 1/2 yards west of Bowen Street, which can be seen on the extreme right. The semi-detached single fronted cottages are situated in a small street off Grote Street. The spire of St Francis Xavier (now St Patricks) in Grote Street can be seen over rooftops.
