[[General Description] Small bluestone cottage on the corner of Grote Street and Oakley Street on October 20th 1925. Heavily pruned twin trees, probably ficus, grow on the footpath. A man can be seen in the backyard loading bricks into a wheelborrow. [On back of photograph] Acre 327 and 326 Grote Street, south side. Corner of Oakley Street Oct. 20th, 1925. Compare with B 3309 (taken after conversion of cottage on the corner into a garage) Near side of the Sportsman's Hotel (on extreme right) is 43 yards west of Oakley Street.

[General description] The Adelaide High School buildings have been photographed from the opposite side of Grote Street, showing schoolboys watching workmen in the middle of the road. The whole centre of the road has been excavated, possibly for the installation of tramlines for the electric trams. S.W. Corner of Grote Street and Brown Street, 5 July 1924. This house was demolished in 1926 and a petrol station was erected on the site. See B 3611 and B 3612. This house is possibly the home of Thomas S. Wood, canvasser who lived at number 147 Grote Street on the corner of Brown Street. In the background are the twin spires of Saint Patrick's Roman Catholic Church.

In 1879 John Anderson Hartley and Catherine Helen Spence created the Advanced School for Girls in Grote Street. Adelaide High School was created in 1908. After 1951 the boys moved to new premises in the west parklands and the original school became the Adelaide Girls High School.

In 1965 the Hairdresser's Co-op Society was housed on this site. The Society secured the property in 1950 with the building's official opening held in 1952. The Society was located here for the 66 years. The building was originally the home of Sir George Kingston, the Surveyor General to Colonel Light.
