Summary

Adelaide High School. Grote Street, south side, 24 October 1935, east corner of Brown Street on right, site for one storey portion, near side is 9.5 yards east of Brown Street and frontage is 48 yards, site of two storey portion, near side is 71 yards east of Brown Street and frontage is 41 yards.During 1908 the Pupil Teacher School, Grote Street Model School and the Advanced School for Girls amalgamated to form the Adelaide Continuation School in Grote Street under the leadership of Mr WJ Adey. In July the name was changed to the Adelaide High School. This became the first mixed free High School in the Commonwealth. The school was cramped for space and in the early 1930's the boys were tutored in buildings in Currie Street.
