Gover Street, south side, 1890, right side of house is 70 yards east of Jeffcott Street and frontage is 6.5 yards. Henry Watson's house was a single fronted stone cottage with wrought iron lacework on the front verandah. Mr and Mrs Henry Watson are standing in their pretty front garden. There are creepers growing up the verandah posts.

Botanical Gardens, Adelaide. This photograph shows a man looking at the well- tended flower beds in the Botanic Gardens in the 1890's. Hooped railings surround the beds and depict the pathways through the gardens. The Amazon statue can be seen in the background sitting upon its plinth. This depicts the goddess on horseback defending herself from a tiger by using a spear. Local residents organised a public subscription in 1867 to raise funds for two new statues, one of which was The Amazon.

Rotunda at Elder Park. The Norwood Boating Club building can be seen across the river in the distance. Sir Thomas Elder donated the rotunda in appreciation of the improvements the Adelaide Council had carried out in the city. It was opened in 1882 more than a year after the weir and lake were completed. This photograph taken in 1890 shows very little water in the lake

Government House possibly 1890 or early 1900's - note small palm trees in front of the entrance. The east front was begun in 1838 and finished in 1840 while the central part was added in 1855. The western wing was added in 1872

[General description] This view of Victoria Park Racecourse shows part of the grounds, racetrack and buildings including the new grandstand (on the left) which was constructed in 1882. It was Adelaide's first official racetrack, called the 'old course' until 1897 when it was renamed Victoria Park in honour of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. H.M.S. Curacoa
H.M.S. Curacoa in 1890. She left port in the United Kingdom on April1, 1889 and travelled to Perth, Albany, Adelaide, Launceston, Melbourne, Sydney, Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch/Lyttleton. She was sent to the Ellice Islands in 1892 to make a formal declaration that the islands were a British Protectorate. She later visited Madeira.

The "France" Ship
[General description] The "France", five masted barque built 1890 by Messrs. D.W. Henderson at Patrick for Messrs. Bordes et Fils of Paris, intended for the nitrate trade. She was said to spread 49,000 square feet of canvas. She had two auxiliary engines, steam winches at every hatch and a steam driven windlass. She was abandoned at sea in May 1901 when her cargo shifted during a hurricane off Cape Horn. The crew were rescued by the German steamer "Hebe". In 1912 a new 5 masted barque "France" 11 was launched.

Promoted Sergeant July 1916, wounded in action 7 August 1916, wounded in action 15 September 1917, awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field, October 1917.

No. 527 Corporal Henry Collins was born at Booleroo Centre on 27 August 1890, the youngest son of James Collins and Mary Jane nee Robinson. He enlisted at Keswick on 18 February 1915, a member of the 27th infantry Battalion, he served at Gallipoli and France being wounded in action three times. He survived the war and returned to Australia in 1919. On 19 September 1923 Henry married Rita Foot in the Methodist Church at Booleroo Centre. They had three children James 'Jim' (1925) Valda Margaret 'Bet' (1927) and Robert George 'Bob' (1933). Henry died suddenly on the 3rd of August 1962 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, leaving his widow, three children and eight grandchildren. His funeral was conducted in the Methodist Church at Booleroo Centre and he is buried in the Booleroo Centre Cemetery.
