Entries begin on Tuesday 1 January 1918 and describe moving to barracks and training camp at Mitcham, undertaking training, travelling to Petersburg and Laura during leave. Entries end in June 2018, with remaining pages containing addresses and names of family, friends and comrades. Original is a small volume, 12.8 x 6.5 x 1 cm.

A small token of love with best wishes for safe and speedy return'. Entries begin on Tuesday 28 May 1918, describing: receiving embarkation orders from Mitcham to embark in June; leaving Adelaide for Melbourne and then Sydney; departing Australia on 6 June; reaching Wellington and Tahiti; celebrating his 20th birthday at sea on 6 July 1918; arriving at Brooklyn, New York and exploring the city; arriving in England 11 August 1918; travelling to training depot near Fovant, Wiltshire and beginning training including route marches, physical tests and lectures; leaving for London and then Glasgow, September; drill and gas training; transfer to 50th Battalion, 1 October 1918; more training near Fovant, including bayonet, bombing, drills; on leave in London, 15 November; travelling to and arriving in France, Le Havre, 22 November; travelling to Belgium and active service in Belgium. Includes home addresses of friends. Original is a small volume, 10 x 7.5 x 1.7 cm.
