Historical information

No. 4373 2nd Corporal Hannibal Thomas Mitchell Lyne, was born 1 May 1897, son of Rosa Jane Cole (daughter of George William Cole and Ann Elizabeth Mitchell) and her husband Hannibal Lyne. He was working as an instrument maker in Eden Hills, South Australia, before he enlisted with the AIF on 10 September 1917 (after originally enlisting in 1915 and being declared medically unfit), as 2nd Air Mechanic with the Australian Flying Corps. He embarked with his unit from Melbourne on board the 'SS Zealandic' on 5 October 1918, and served in London and France, returning to Australia in November 1919. He later served in the Second World War, enlisting on 28 September 1939, Number S212182, Lieutenant with the 31st Australian Garrison Battallion until September 1945. He married Mai Elizabeth Puhlmann in 1922, and moved to Canada. Died in 1983.
